Portfolio Insights
Automatic portfolio analysis that surfaces actionable patterns, risks, and opportunities across your contracts.
Pro Feature
What Insights Shows
The Insights page automatically analyzes your entire contract portfolio and surfaces findings you might otherwise miss:
- Renewal Clusters: Groups of contracts expiring around the same time, helping you plan workload and negotiate together
- Vendor Concentration: Alerts when too much of your spending is tied to a single vendor, creating business risk
- Spend Anomalies: Contracts with values significantly above or below similar agreements in your portfolio
- Risk Trends: Patterns in risk severity across your portfolio over time, showing whether your risk posture is improving or worsening
How Insights Are Generated
Insights are produced through automatic analysis of your contract data. The system examines:
- All contract dates, values, and terms across your portfolio
- Vendor relationships and spending patterns
- Risk severity distributions and trends
- Auto-renewal clauses and notice periods
Analysis runs automatically when you add, edit, or remove contracts. You can also trigger a manual analysis at any time from the Insights page.
Insight Statuses
Each insight has one of three statuses:
- Active: A current finding that requires your attention. Active insights appear at the top of the list.
- Dismissed: An insight you have reviewed and chosen to set aside. Dismissed insights move to the bottom of the list and can be restored at any time.
- Resolved: An insight that has been addressed. When the underlying condition no longer applies (e.g., you reduced vendor concentration), the insight is marked as resolved.
Triggering a Manual Analysis
While analysis runs automatically, you can request an immediate refresh:
- Navigate to the Insights page from the sidebar
- Click the "Run Analysis" button in the top-right corner
- Wait for the analysis to complete (usually under 30 seconds)
- New or updated insights will appear in the list
Acting on Each Insight Type
Renewal Clusters
When multiple contracts expire in the same window:
- Consider staggering renewals to spread workload
- Bundle related contracts for better negotiating leverage
- Set calendar reminders well in advance of the cluster
Vendor Concentration
When spending is too concentrated with one vendor:
- Evaluate alternative vendors for redundancy
- Negotiate better terms using your volume as leverage
- Create contingency plans for vendor disruption
Spend Anomalies
When a contract value is outside the normal range:
- Review the contract terms for accuracy
- Compare with similar agreements to understand the variance
- Flag for renegotiation at the next renewal
Risk Trends
When your portfolio risk is trending upward:
- Prioritize review of high-risk contracts
- Address auto-renewal traps before notice deadlines
- Work through the review queue to resolve outstanding items
Insights vs. Analytics
Both pages use your contract data, but they serve different purposes:
- Analytics provides static metrics and visualizations: health scores, charts, vendor breakdowns, and trend lines. It answers "what does my portfolio look like right now?"
- Insights provides dynamic, actionable findings: specific patterns, anomalies, and recommendations. It answers "what should I pay attention to?"
Use Analytics for reporting and planning. Use Insights for day-to-day prioritization and action.
