Multi-language contracts

Not every contract is in English. You can upload contracts written in other languages. Renewly works out which language each one is in, reads it, and gives you the results in English, so your whole portfolio reads the same way.

Supported languages

Renewly reads contracts in most widely used languages, for example:

Other languages often work too. Results can be less accurate for less common languages, so check the details against the document.

How it works

Upload your contract as usual.
Renewly works out the main language of the document.
It reads the contract and writes the summary, key terms, obligations and risks in English.
Party names stay exactly as they appear in the contract.
For a contract that is not in English, the contract page shows a note with its language, for example "French contract".

What gets translated

Written in English: the summary, key terms, obligations and risks.
Kept as they are: party names, amounts and currencies. Dates are shown in your usual date format, whatever format the contract used.

Tips for best results

One language per document works best. Contracts in two languages side by side can still be read, but check the results a little more carefully.
Standard contract wording is well understood in each language. Very specialised or old-fashioned legal wording is worth a second look by someone on your team.
Dates are understood whatever their order in the contract (for example day/month/year or year/month/day).

Can I see the original text?

Yes. The original contract file is always there to open and download. The details Renewly shows are in English.

What if the language note is wrong?

The language note is for information only. Renewly reads the actual text of the contract, so a wrong label does not change the results.

Does this cost extra?

No. Contracts in other languages are handled the same way on every plan, at no extra cost.
