Security
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Add an extra layer of security to your account with time-based one-time passwords (TOTP).
Setting Up 2FA
- Go to Account Settings → Security
- Click "Enable Two-Factor Authentication"
- Scan the QR code with your authenticator app
- Enter the 6-digit verification code to confirm
- Download and save your recovery codes in a secure location
Compatible Authenticator Apps
2FA works with any TOTP-compatible authenticator app:
- Microsoft Authenticator (iOS, Android)
- Google Authenticator (iOS, Android)
- Authy (iOS, Android, Desktop)
- 1Password (Password manager with TOTP)
- Bitwarden (Password manager with TOTP)
Recovery Codes
When you enable 2FA, you'll receive 10 one-time recovery codes. Each code can be used once to access your account if you lose access to your authenticator app.
- Download the recovery codes immediately
- Store them in a secure location (password manager or secure physical location)
- Each code can only be used once
- You can regenerate codes at any time from Settings
Logging In with 2FA
Once 2FA is enabled, you'll need to provide a verification code after entering your password:
- Enter your email and password as usual
- Open your authenticator app
- Enter the 6-digit code for Renewly
- Click "Verify" to complete login
This applies to both password-based login and magic link authentication.
Disabling 2FA
You can disable 2FA at any time:
- Go to Account Settings → Security
- Click "Disable Two-Factor Authentication"
- Enter your password to confirm
- Enter a current 6-digit code from your authenticator app
Other Security Features
- Active Sessions: View and manage logged-in devices
- Login History: See recent account access
API Keys
Renewly provides a public API for programmatic access to your contract data. Manage your API keys from the Settings page.
Creating an API Key
- Go to Settings → API Keys
- Click "Create API Key"
- Name your key (e.g., "CRM Integration" or "Reporting Dashboard")
- Optionally set an expiration date
- Save the key securely — it is shown only once and cannot be retrieved later
Save Your API Key Immediately
Revoking API Keys
You can revoke any API key at any time from Settings → API Keys. Revoked keys stop working immediately. We recommend revoking keys that are no longer in use or that may have been compromised.
For full API documentation including endpoints, authentication, and code examples, see the API Documentation.
