Google Workspace renewal: the last day to say no
On an Annual/Fixed-Term Plan, Google's terms say notice of non-renewal must reach Google at least 15 days before the end of the current term, and cancelling earlier still leaves you owing the rest of the commitment. The Flexible Plan renews month to month and can be cancelled at any time.
What Google Workspace says
“If either party does not want the GWS Services or Cloud Identity Services to renew, then it must notify the other party to this effect at least 15 days before the end of the then-current Order Term, and this notice of non-renewal will take effect at the end of the then-current Order Term.”
“If you don't do anything, your subscription automatically renews on a one year term.”
“If you cancel your subscription before the renewal date, you're charged for the remaining balance of your contract and no refunds are issued.”

How to give notice
- Find the renewal date: in the Admin console open Billing, then your subscription, then Plan renewal.
- Count back at least 15 days and add a margin. Picture a term ending on 31 March: 15 days before is 16 March, so aim for the first week of March.
- Click Change renewal settings and choose not to renew, or switch to the Flexible Plan. Google's help page says a switch takes effect on the renewal date.
- Google says it sends a notification 30 days and 3 days before renewal. Do not wait for the 3-day one.
- Take a screenshot of the saved setting and note the date.
Questions people ask
Can I just cancel part-way through the year?
You can, but Google's help page says you are still responsible for the full value of the commitment and no refunds are issued. Wait for the term end, or switch to the Flexible Plan from the renewal date.
Which plan am I on?
Billing, then Subscriptions in the Admin console shows Flexible or Annual/Fixed-Term. Flexible renews monthly and Google says it can be cancelled at any time without a penalty; Annual cannot.
Can I reduce licences before the renewal?
Not on an Annual/Fixed-Term Plan. Google says you can reduce licences only when renewing the plan at the end of the contract.
