QuickBooks Online renewal: the last day to say no

Intuit sets no notice period: a QuickBooks Online subscription renews every monthly or annual period until you cancel it yourself, the cancellation takes effect when the paid period ends, and there is no refund for the unused part of a period.

What QuickBooks Online says

“Subscription cancellations will take effect the day after the last day of the current subscription period.”

“We do not provide refunds or credits for any cancellations or partial subscription period.”

“Price changes will take effect at the start of the next subscription period following the date of the price change.”

Check your own contract

Your order form or negotiated agreement can say something different. Check your own contract. The US and UK terms differ in wording but agree on this. A subscription bought through an app store is cancelled through that store.

How to give notice

  1. Find your next billing date: sign in to the Intuit Account Manager, open Products & billing, then select your company name to reach your subscription page.
  2. Cancel before that date. There is nothing to gain by cancelling earlier: you keep access until the period ends either way.
  3. Select Cancel on the product and follow the on-screen steps, then wait for the confirmation.
  4. If you run payroll, it is a separate subscription with its own cancel steps (QuickBooks Help links to them), so check it separately.

Questions people ask

I paid for a year and want out now. Do I get money back?

Not for the unused months. Intuit's terms say there are no refunds or credits for partial periods. The one exception is the 60-day money-back guarantee on an annual subscription, which Intuit says does not apply to monthly plans or to renewals.

What happens to the promotional price?

Intuit's pricing fine print says the introductory discount applies for the first 3 months, after which you are charged monthly at the then-current price until you cancel.

What happens to my books after I cancel?

Intuit's help page says you keep read-only access to your data for one year.
