DocuSign renewal: the last day to say no

An eSignature plan bought online renews for the same length of term unless an administrator cancels it at least five business days before the term ends, and DocuSign's terms say the cancellation only takes effect once DocuSign confirms it.

What DocuSign says

“it will automatically renew for the same time period (“Renewal Term”) unless: (a) you cancel your Subscription Plan or terminate your Account at least five (5) business days in advance of the end of the then-current Subscription term”

“You must receive a confirmation from Docusign on your request for cancellation in order for cancellation to take effect.”

“Annual plans in the US, EU, and Brazil: 30 days from account activation.”

Check your own contract

Your order form or negotiated agreement can say something different. Check your own contract. This page covers plans bought online (Personal, Standard, Business Pro). A plan bought through DocuSign's sales team runs on an order form, and DocuSign's support page says those accounts cannot be cancelled or refunded during the contracted term.

How to give notice

  1. Find your renewal date: sign in as an administrator, then Admin, then Plan and Billing.
  2. Count back five business days and add a margin. A weekend or a holiday inside the window pushes the last day earlier.
  3. Choose Manage Subscription, then Cancel subscription, then Confirm Cancellation. The account drops to the free version at the end of the term. Do not choose Close Account if you only want to stop the renewal.
  4. Keep the confirmation email. The terms say cancellation only takes effect once DocuSign confirms it.

Questions people ask

I am on an annual plan billed monthly. Can I stop paying?

Not after the first 30 days. DocuSign's pricing page says that if you cancel after the 30-day period you must pay the remaining balance of the annual subscription.

Is there any refund?

Only in the first 30 days of an annual plan bought online, once per customer. DocuSign's refund policy says monthly plans in the US are not refundable, with 14 days from account activation in the EU.

Does the five-day rule apply to a monthly plan?

DocuSign's pricing page says a monthly plan can be cancelled at any time and you will not be charged for the next month, but marks that as subject to the terms, which say five business days. Use the five business days.
